Ignus Autumnum (autumn
flame) is the second in a series inspired by combinations of concepts pertaining
to the seasons and the elements. Ignus Autumnum is the combination of
Fall and Fire. She is mature and tranquil, gently falling in a dreamlike state
of transition. Multiple visual metaphors interact in this piece.
Leslie sculpted Ignus
Autumnum using primarily Prosculpt polymer clay painted with metallic enamel
paint and costumed her in fine suede leather and shimmery fabrics. The wig is
synthetic and is woven with hand-painted silk leaves. This piece is hung by
strong but nearly invisible14-pound test monfilament and can be suspended from
a display stand or the ceiling.
Ignus Autumnum won
a blue ribbon in the original fantasy category at the Independence Doll Extravaganza,
April 2002.
