This aerosculpture reminded Leslie of a pale bird. A kittiwake is a pearl-colored seagull, so the piece became Kittywake. The pose is similar to Blue Leaper, Leslie's first airborne abstract. The white pearl paint catches the light beautifully, and softly reflects nearby colors for a subtle opalescent effect.
