Angels are a common source
of inspiration, and Leslie's interest in graceful females made Sara,
who is posed as if she is just about to take flight, an obvious choice. Wanting
to use polymer clay and mixed media to create a certain "basic" look,
Leslie clothed the angel very minimally.
The art doll holds a special
place in Leslie's heart; not only was it the first of her "females in flight,"
but the angel's face is that of her sister, Angela.
Sara won honorable
mention in the Comic-Con International 2000 Art Show and the Prosculpt Scholarship
Award in 2001. Pictures of Sara have also been published on the Sculptfest
2001 promotional poster, in Doll Crafter Magazine (Jan 2002), and in
Contemporary Doll Collector Magazine (Dec/Jan 2002).
